OG&E Wins “Utility of the Year” Award with Groundbreaking SAP and OpenText Transformation

At the recent SAP for Utilities conference by ASUG in Denver, CO, OG&E took center stage by sharing highlights from its ambitious digital transformation journey. As part of its RISE with SAP program, OG&E moved to SAP SuccessFactors, SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud Edition, and SAP Cloud for Customer (C4C).

To further accelerate and strengthen this journey, OG&E partnered with Ecodocx to deliver first-of-its-kind OpenText solutions that seamlessly integrated into the SAP ecosystem.

Other Key Sessions by OG&E

OG&E didn’t stop there—they delivered multiple sessions covering different aspects of their RISE with SAP journey:

Implementing SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition: A Journey of Challenges & Triumphs

Kevin Lagge (Strategy and Business Development Executive, OG&E), David Kenyon (Chief IT Architect, OG&E), and Justin Vogle (Director, Tech Strategy, Arch & Innovation) shared how OG&E became the first legacy utility to migrate 25 years of work order history to S/4HANA in a single go-live, alongside CX 1.0 deployment and EAM modernization. The project not only delivered a stable, cloud-based, clean core foundation to support future growth and minimize business disruptions, but also revealed the complexities and challenges that come with such a large-scale shift. The presenters shared valuable lessons learned and practical strategies for overcoming obstacles, all while keeping leadership goals and business objectives front and center—making it an insightful session for anyone navigating a similar transformation.

Accelerating your SAP S/4HANA Transformation with GenAI: A Real-World Utility Case Study with OG&E

Kevin Lagge (Strategy and Business Development Executive, OG&E), David Kenyon (Chief IT Architect, OG&E), and  Diego Dora (CEO & Founder DIFF Consulting LLC)  hosted a separate session on the role of GenAI in enhancing OG&E’s SAP transformation program. OG&E leveraged a suite of GenAI-powered tools to balance speed and quality during their SAP transformation, automating and governing key aspects of the lifecycle. These innovations reduced manual effort, surfaced quality issues earlier, and created a transparent accountability framework for partners—showcasing how AI can auto-generate technical and functional documentation by reverse-engineering legacy systems, enable semantic-aware code reviews to ensure quality and business alignment, and accelerate resolution cycles through AI-driven defect analysis and test validation.

All of this hard work and innovation was recognized when OG&E received the “Utility of the Year – Large Enterprise” SAP Utility Excellence Award at the 2025 SAP4U conference.

At Ecodocx, we are proud to have played a role in this transformation by helping OG&E leverage OpenText solutions within their SAP landscape. Together, we’ve shown what’s possible when utilities embrace innovation, collaboration, and cloud-first strategies.

OG&E: Keys to Success

OG&E’s keys to success included collaborating with experienced partners who understand SAP, OpenText, and the unique needs of utilities, as well as setting achievable project goals and phasing work that can be done independently. They emphasized thorough testing with realistic data and well-defined scenarios to ensure a smooth go-live, alongside strong Organizational Change Management through clear communication, stakeholder engagement, end-user training, and ongoing support. By focusing automation on high-volume, high-touch processes and learning from the experiences of other utilities rather than reinventing the wheel, OG&E was able to drive efficiency and deliver lasting results.
